Poprocks, Shooters, and German Nachos

Last night I witnessed the Germans drink, and boy oh boy they can drink! It must be in their genes or something. We went to a cocktail bar with some of Jara's friends. We ordered a bottle of the cocktail Los Angeles (go figure), then Jara's friends bought my brother and I a shot (shooter) to welcome us to their country. This was no ordinary shot. First, we were given a packet of candy (called Ahoy Matey) which was like Poprocks. We were supposed to put them on our tongue as we took the shot. They sure popped!!

Then today we mostly hung around the house. Jara taught me how to use her coffee machine! Hallelujah! This stuff is good! Later in the evening we all went out to dinner with Jara's mom, Jara's older sister, and Jara's sister's boyfriend.

As an appetizer, Jara's mom order nachos. Now these nachos are not your typical American nachos.

This may look like ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise, but NO! The red is salsa (like Pace salsa), the yellow is curry, and the white is like ranch dip! (Dad...we got bread at the table and it tasted just like zwiebach but it was a loaf! Jara's sister's boyfriend said their zwiebach here is a lot crunchier.) Then after dinner, we had more ice cream :)

Then off to the movie rental store where all the movies are American with German titles, but the movie plays in English.

Also, this is a picture of the room in Jara's house that I am staying. Her house is out of an Ikea catalog!

Right now we are watching the movie Taken (here it is called 96 hours)....not the best movie to watch before we leave for Paris in 5 days!

Three Things I Learned Today:
1. Hannover is the greenest city in Germany. (They have the most trees)
2. Germans eat oatmeal cold with milk...just like cereal
3. Fuseball tables are everywhere and the Germans are really good at it! (let's just say I lost 0 to 10 and they were going easy on me...or so they said)
